Case StudyBritish Library
A collection of images curated from over 150 million items.
The British Library is the national gallery for the United Kingdom and one of the world’s greatest libraries. It receives a copy of every publication produced in the UK and Ireland. The library holds over 150 million items, including maps, rare books, illustrations, paintings and photographs.
The British Library prints website featured the most popular images from the British Library’s archives, from legendary documents such as the Magna Carta to 20th century photographs by Fay Godwin.
We worked closely with the The British Library to build an ecommerce platform that allows visitors to order customised prints of these iconic images from the prints website.
The platform enabled users to select the image they want and choose the paper type, size and frame of the print. Our powerful Print API automatically connects this order to one of our print labs and we print and fulfil each individual order, with white label delivery direct to the customer’s home.
We supported the online store with an ecommerce kiosk in the Library’s in-house retail shop. This allowed visitors of the British Library to browse the archive of images and order framed prints and canvases directly from the kiosk.
Customers paid for their selection through the shops EPOS system with automated fulfilment taking place via our Print API.
